Drawing Anna Wintour

This is my third drawing in the series, Fashion Personalities Spring 2011. Yes, the name is certainly endlessly pretentious. Yet, somehow, it does not irk me to the point of changing it.

Anna Wintour in Prada Spring Summer 2011. I loved the print on the look (it consisted of bananas and monkeys) and the detail was amazing. It looked as if a Milanese art student had hand-painted a caricature of what he / she saw in a Zoological book. Which meant, this Milanese art student had made my task of adorning Ms. Wintour's body even more complicated.

I wasn't sure about the shoes, as I always see the same pair of Manolo's on the Wintours feet. The bag is also Prada and the sunglasses are her classic Chanel frames.

Watercolour Attempt One. Balenciaga.

This was my first ever attempt at water colour. Its obvious that I had no idea what I was doing. And many times during the process, I laughed at the failure of the water colour to do what I wanted it to. I need training. Lots. If anyone knows of a water colour training camp, I will happily skip off and join.

This drawing was originally three figures, but the third (now omitted, rest her soul) was such an incredible failure I had to cut it out.

The looks are Balenciaga Fall 2010. I hope to draw more of these looks from the runway, but I have to find an appropriate form for them.

Drawing Anna Dello Russo

This is a so called 'quickie' that I drew last night. Obviously, the lack of detail makes it look worse. But let met tell you, I have no patience. I'm working on it. haha.

I love Anna Dello Russo, of Vogue Nippon, and I thought she would look great in the orange Jil Sander look (on Hanne-Gaby) from Spring Summer 2011. The shoes are Versace Spring Summer 2011. I'm not sure if they match, but I couldn't think of any other more appropriate shoe. The hat is a bunch of grapes inspired by Anna's genius cherry head piece.

I don't think this drawing does justice to her, so I am working on another Anna drawing. This time she wears Versus Spring Summer 2011.

Prada Look Book SS 11 One.

I love the Prada Look Books that are released each season. They are endlessly inspiring in all facets of creative work.

Hence, I have attempted to create my own interpretation of Spring 2011 through some amateur lookbook work.

I will attempt to make others but let me tell you; they are hard work for someone that has little knowledge of PhotoShop and Adobe Illustrator, etc.

I have some ideas on the Menswear Spring 2011 collection, but I am still thinking of what the Womenswear meant. Josephine Baker? Spain? Wall Street? Robots? Tango? Too many contrasting aesthetics and ideas, as always in a Prada show, hence the genius of it.

Media Art One.

I am going to call these works "Media Art" because I do not have enough of an imagination to name them anything else.

I don't know how else to describe them other than to say that after hours of watching Antonioni films and after hours of procrastinating over Prada's Fall/Winter 2010/2011 collection I came to one conclusion. That Monica Vitti and Prada belong together. And so the work began.

Monica Vitti and Prada. In the image on the left, she wears one of the finale dresses from the collection. The image is from L'Eclisse. It is a work of appropriation. Please don't sue me. Thank-you.

There are more of these to come. Brace yourselves. Or not.

Drawing Tavi.

This is my most recent attempt to create a relatively life-like (can a drawing be life-like? I don't know) drawing of blogger Tavi Gevinson.

Well specifically, it was my attempt to manifest the genius of Marc Jacobs Spring 2011 collection on the genius of Tavi Gevinson.

Please ignore the fact that I cannot for the life of me, accurately draw a pattern from a runway photo. I am trying. Believe me. I am trying. Hopefully by the end of the season, I will have at least one accurately drawn pattern that will impress you all.

Please don't ignore the fact that I named the post Drawing Tavi. I felt it needed more than numbers. Did I feel right?

Also, please note that I could not decide on whether black-and-white or colour was a better execution of the idea. Thoughts?

Drawing Two.

This is another Balenciaga look that I sketched earlier this year from an old Balenciaga advertisement that I found on TheFashionSpot.

The gold was my attempt at colour, as stated in the previous post, I was in my rather pretentious and rather ridiculous phase of black-and-white-drawing-is-supreme mode.

Please do not ignore the artful scanning technique I used. It caused a great deal of procrastination. Thoughts?

Drawing One.

This was one of the first fashion drawings I did. Well, one of the first non-doodle fashion drawings.

It is of a Balenciaga Fall 2006 look. No colour, as I was going through my black-and-white-is-supreme phase.

Please ignore how terrible it is. Please do not ignore the mistakes. I'd like to think they add something to the drawing. Please also do not ignore the fact that I am completely new to drawing.

Hello [potential] readers. I would like to inaugurate Dada Milano by introducing the concept of the blog.

Whilst this may not my first blog. Or second. Or third. It is my first personal blog [Note, the photo of me on the left]. That is, the type of personal blog that involves personal artistic endeavors, and not second-hand imagery. And I do not mean this as a jive to all those dedicated bloggers who obsess over style.com and jakandjil, etc. I just mean to say, that I will try my best to keep the content as personal as possible.

I hope you like my work and if you have any suggestions for content, I am open to suggestion.
